Murakkab

Bodies are neither natural nor neutral; bodies are social sediments disciplined through a regulating process of prescribed performances and sanctioned doings. In this sense, we are not born with a body but we acquire a body amid vigilant protocols of religious prohibitions and cultural allowances, negotiated between social order and personal transgressions, secured in a binary grammar of contrasts and sameness.

Murakkab, literally a compound of two or more elements obtained through a prescribed formula is a self-portrait of the artist’s body.
